Support the Energy Security and Independence Act
On April 6, 2022 Congresswoman Cori Bush (D-MO-01), Congressman Jason Crow (D-CO-06), and Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) introduced the Energy Security and Independence Act (ESIA) of 2022. This bill would allow President Biden to invoke the Defense Production Act (DPA) of 1950 to strengthen the renewable energy supply chain. Specifically, the ESIA would be used to improve the supply chain for heat pumps, solar panels, wind turbines and other significant pieces of renewable technology.
The main outcomes detailed in the bill are:
- Funding ($100,000,000,000) the Defense Production Act (DPA) for the Biden administration to build renewable energy to scale in the United States to lower prices and reduce reliance on fossil fuels
- Invest in the renewable energy supply chain in the US to support reliable, affordable and safe energy production and green jobs with strong labor standards
- Invest billions in energy efficiency to lower utility prices including investments in weatherization and heat pump.
The changes that would come about from this bill would help economic growth by creating a number of new jobs in the renewable energy sector as well as reconcile some of disproportionate damage inflicted on BIPOC communities by the fossil fuel industry. ESIA would also push the US away from needing to import foreign fossil fuels by creating large scale energy sources on American soil, expanding access to energy while lowering the cost.
The time is now to advocate for renewable energy on American soil!
