Support the California Circular Economy and Plastic Pollution Reduction Act

Dear Legislators,

We in the U.S. discard 30 million tons of plastic each year alone, while less than 10 percent of the plastic we generate gets recycled properly. With foreign markets now refusing to accept our recycling waste, much of it ends up in landfills or burned. Exposure to chemicals found in plastics has been linked to cancer, reproductive impairments, and other serious health issues, yet many continue to mass produce our everyday goods or package them using the material. As business leaders, we support efforts to make a major difference in our business practices and in public policy.

We believe it is important to reduce plastic waste pollution and clean up our supply chain and particularly to focus on the role of single-use plastics in product packaging and incentivizing innovative packaging solutions.

As business leaders, we encourage your passage of the California Circular Economy and Plastic Pollution Reduction Act. We support its aim to reduce waste from single-use packaging and other problematic plastic disposables. These bills establish a framework at the state level that will, among other regulations, require manufacturers to accomplish a 75% reduction in single-use packaging and product waste by 2030.

Reducing plastic waste will save local governments millions in disposal costs, protect our environment, drive us towards more innovative solutions and help move us towards a healthier and more sustainable economy.

We believe that businesses working hand and hand with legislators is instrumental and can help usher in the future of sustainable packaging.
