At the American Sustainable Business Network (ASBN), our mission is to inform, connect, mobilize, and amplify the collective voice of sustainable business leaders. We work to transform both the public and private sectors, driving the shift toward a just and regenerative economy that benefits all stakeholders.
We envision a future where a regenerative economy is the standard—one that is stakeholder-driven, sustainable, just, and prosperous. In this future, all businesses play a pivotal role in advancing social equity, environmental responsibility, and long-term economic resilience.
The systemic barriers to opportunity for women and the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities continue to hinder economic progress. To build a truly inclusive and thriving economy, we must urgently advance justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion at every level of business and policy.
A fully participatory economy ensures that all individuals have equitable access to goods, services, and fair markets. This requires community-driven public policies, strong regulatory frameworks, and a resilient democracy that prioritizes shared prosperity.
Environmental and social stewardship alone are insufficient. Equitable access to and responsible stewardship of our planet’s finite resources depends on embedding regeneration into all human systems, ensuring a habitable planet for future generations.
A thriving business ecosystem is only possible through regenerative and restorative solutions. A truly vibrant economy demands universal access to justice-centered resources, fair capital, inclusive opportunities, and empowered communities.
Lasting solutions can only be achieved through deep collaboration among all stakeholders in an inclusive and participatory process that embraces diverse perspectives and lived experiences.
Full transparency and accountability are not just ethical imperatives but fundamental economic and policy necessities for governments, businesses, and investors committed to long-term stability and trust.
Our economy and society function as dynamic, interconnected systems that require bold leadership and visionary long-term strategies to drive meaningful, systemic transformation.

The American Sustainable Business Network (ASBN) was created in 2022 in partnership with the business and investor community. Since its affiliate entities’ initial foundings–ASBC in 2009, and ASBI in 2011–ASBN has grown its network of members to collectively represent more than 200,000 businesses across diverse industries in the U.S. Our impact has been significant, shaping both policy and public perception of sustainable business.
A strong democracy is essential for a vibrant and inclusive entrepreneurial economy where stakeholders have a voice. Effective governance ensures that organizations prioritize stakeholder interests and align their strategies with long-term value creation.
Balancing economic activity with planetary boundaries, conserving the environment, and taking action to turn the tide of harms caused by human activity is critical for future resilience and a thriving regenerative economy.
A stakeholder economy is one that prioritizes human well-being and inclusivity in an effort to address systemic inequities. The actions taken in this area empower communities and promote a regenerative future for all.
Transforming economic systems toward regenerative practices for shared prosperity is central to achieving a stakeholder-driven economy. This shift encourages long-term societal and environmental wellbeing.

ASBN has played a critical role in major policy victories through our affiliate entity ASBC, including work that contributed to stopping the Keystone Pipeline, passing the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act passing the Federal Main Street Employee Ownership Act, and leading the business effort to ban fracking in New York State.
We have established State Affiliates and regional representation across the U.S. in states like Arizona, Connecticut, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Texas, New Jersey, New York and North Carolina, with active representation in over 40 states.
ASBN, through our affiliate ASBC, has conducted over 600 Hill visits, mobilizing more than 1,800 business leaders equipping them with the tools and platform to champion transformative sustainable policies at the highest levels of government. Our staff and members have testified at numerous federal and state hearings and briefings, and their perspectives are highly regarded across party lines.
We produce business case studies, reports, white papers, and polling data on key issues ranging from climate and energy to access to capital, greenwashing, and fair labor practices.
ASBN is a trusted source for major media outlets such as CBS News, The Washington Post, The New York Times, Politico, Bloomberg, The Economist, and The Hill. We provide media training for business leaders, preparing them for press engagements and op-ed placements.
This work would not be possible without the remarkable support of our Board of Directors, and our incredible team of talented staff and partners.
Becoming part of ASBN means joining a powerful movement of businesses committed to building a sustainable, just and regenerative economy. Our members gain access to advocacy opportunities, thought leadership, networking, and the ability to shape the future of sustainable business.
Together, we are redefining what it means to do business—creating a world where sustainability and prosperity go hand in hand.
