We know how climate change is impacting our businesses across the nation, from LA to North Carolina, and beyond. Contrary to claims that climate action stifles business, real-world experience proves the opposite. Bold, forward-thinking policies will build a resilient future that benefits people, the planet, and businesses alike.
Ambitious climate action is the key to freeing American ingenuity, creating millions of meaningful jobs, and creating a stable future for people and businesses alike, that’s why legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act has proven to receive bipartisan support from both historically red and blue states.
Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent. The science is clear: man-made climate change is an urgent reality that demands immediate action.
As America builds its economy for the future, we have a unique opportunity, despite what’s happening in Washington, to put climate resiliency and low-carbon energy at its center. By replacing fossil fuels with clean energy investments—such as expanding wind and solar capacity, modernizing state and local power grids, and scaling up battery storage—we can accelerate the transition to a more sustainable economy. Weatherization programs and energy efficiency measures, from upgrading buildings to electrifying transportation, will reduce emissions and lower costs for communities. However, this progress faces real threats, including policy rollbacks, climate denialism and the fossil fuel industry’s infiltration of government, supply chain disruptions, and workforce shortages.
Business leaders can play a key role in protecting past clean energy investments and advocating for policies that sustain and expand them. From championing domestic manufacturing of renewable technologies to pushing for regulatory stability and infrastructure upgrades, companies can lead the charge, and ASBN can provide the guidance and resources to be effective. The U.S. must seize this moment to cement its leadership in the global clean energy economy, ensuring that innovation, economic growth, and climate resilience go hand in hand. The business case for climate resilience is clear and we will continue to champion it even amidst backlash and rollbacks.
As a community, we’ve agreed upon the following six essential principles to guide our work:
Inflation Reduction Act
2022’s landmark Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), the largest federal clean energy investment in American history. The IRA makes historic investments in clean energy and climate protection while creating jobs, lowering the cost of living, cleaning up legacy pollution, and slashing new pollution by 40% by 2030. Though the bill doesn’t get the nation all the way to America’s commitment to cutting climate pollution by half by 2030, the progress it creates puts that target within relatively easy reach. It is critical for businesses to continue advocating for the full implementation, defense, and expansion of the IRA programs to support the clean energy transition.
Clean Air Advocacy
ASBN is leading the charge for stronger clean air protections, ensuring environmental responsibility drives economic growth. Through the Solutions for Pollution initiative, we urge the White House to implement federal protections that cut pollution by 50% by 2030, advance environmental justice, and accelerate the clean energy transition. Our Pollution Reduction advocacy includes business case studies on methane reduction and carbon labeling, demonstrating how smart regulations create jobs, foster innovation, and unlock long-term value. By testifying before Congress and shaping policy, we prove that clean air and economic prosperity go hand in hand.
