Systems Thinking and Holistic Solutions

Balancing economic activity with planetary boundaries, conserving the environment, and taking action to turn the tide of harms caused by human activity is critical for future resilience and a thriving regenerative economy.
Due to neglect and active degradation over the past century, protecting and enhancing the global environment for future generations is humanity’s most urgent task. This vital effort has many components, and no force is better equipped to successfully address them than business. Indeed, only the corporate sector has the scale, reach, and resources capable of engineering the course corrections now required.
ASBN and its members are coming together to explore and create the environmental solutions the world needs now. We’re here to help your company understand how it can have the largest and most meaningful impacts in the areas that matter most: climate, energy and decarbonization; conservation and clean water; regenerative agriculture; biodiversity and resource preservation; and more.
Three-quarters of the Earth’s land surface has been significantly altered by human activity, affecting natural habitats. (IPBES, 2019)
Agriculture is responsible for 80% of global deforestation, leading to species displacement and extinction. (FAO, 2020)
Rising temperatures threaten over 30% of species with extinction if global warming exceeds 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
Conservation
Increasing climate pressure, efforts to unsustainably industrialize lands and waters, and the struggles of resource-dependent communities demand that the U.S. set a new course for conservation, governance and climate action. Businesses for Conservation and Climate Action (BCCA), a fiscally sponsored project of ASBN, is a coalition of Tribes, Tribal service organizations, and Indigenous and non- Indigenous community-based businesses strengthening the collective voice and power to advance conservation, climate solutions, just economic initiatives, and policy.
Clean Water
Rooted in the Delaware River Watershed, ASBN’s Clean Water Is Good For Business initiative is empowering businesses to champion clean water. We unite companies, investors, and leaders to advocate for stronger protections, improved infrastructure, and policies that enhance resilience to floods and droughts. By fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders, we’re shifting the conversation to emphasize how clean water is vital for economic growth, environmental sustainability, and public well-being.
Climate & Energy
We know how climate change is impacting our businesses across the nation, from LA to North Carolina and beyond. Contrary to claims that climate action stifles business, real-world experience proves the opposite. Bold, forward-thinking policies will build a resilient future that benefits people, the planet, and businesses alike. By investing in sustainability, we can unleash American innovation, drive economic growth, and create millions of well-paying jobs. Extreme weather events are becoming more frequent. The science is clear: man-made climate change is an urgent reality that demands immediate action.
Regenerative Agriculture
ASBN’s Regenerative Agriculture and Justice Initiative is transforming the agricultural system by addressing social inequities. We ensure family farms receive fair prices that cover production costs and provide stable livelihoods. We advocate for equitable access to markets and farm programs for historically underserved Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), and women farmers. We also fight for living wages and safe working conditions for all food and agricultural workers. By creating a just, regenerative food system, we support thriving communities and a healthier planet.
IRA Implementation in the Electric Vehicle Battery Industry and the Clean Energy Transition
The White House acknowledges ASBN among 62 key organizations supporting historic climate provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act.
Mike Green, ASBN’s director of climate and energy policy, celebrated the passing of the IRA at the White House.
When business prioritizes sustainability, we can all reap the benefits of a future that is just, equitable and resilient. A regenerative economy is possible, but it takes dedication and commitment to systems change and environmental conservation and regeneration.
