Our mission is to inform, connect, mobilize, and amplify the collective voice of sustainable business leaders to transform the public and private sectors toward a just and regenerative economy. The American Sustainable Business Network (ASBN) serves as an umbrella organization encompassing two affiliates: the 501(c)(4) American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC) and the 501(c)(3) American Sustainable Business Institute (ASBI). These entities work in close harmony to advance ASBN’s mission; their focus areas and functions are distinct yet complementary. Together, these organizations form a powerful platform to drive systemic change by aligning advocacy with education and collaboration.
The seed was planted over 35 years ago when ASBN’s co-founder and president, David Levine, envisioned a new way of doing business—one that prioritized people and the planet alongside profit. Frustrated with an economy that concentrated wealth in the hands of a few while exploiting communities and natural resources, along with a group of other visionary entrepreneurs, he sought to create a model that fostered equitable prosperity and environmental responsibility. Our founding affiliate organization, the American Sustainable Business Council (ASBC), began in 2009 and the work has since taken root. Today, ASBN and it’s members collectively represent over 200,000 businesses across the U.S. and growing.
At ASBN, our passion is fueled by the urgency of the twin economic and environmental crises of our times, and our belief that the power of the business voice to drive collective action will create systemic change. Our team values collaboration, transparency, mutual support, growth and fun!
