The U.S. Forest Service is proposing to rescind the 2001 Roadless Area Conservation Rule (Roadless Rule), which protects millions of acres of National Forest System lands from new road construction and limits timber harvesting in inventoried roadless areas. Public comments are due Oct 6.
These lands are economic assets that support outdoor recreation, tourism, clean water, fisheries, and rural businesses. They also provide natural infrastructure that benefits communities and taxpayers.
The American Sustainable Business Network will submit a comment urging the agency to maintain the Roadless Rule and ensure that decisions about public lands account for both the economic value these lands already provide and the long-term costs of additional development. Read our comment here.
