Sustainable Business Leaders Celebrate Latest Accomplishment for Clean Air Standards with EPA Finalization of Light-Duty Vehicle Rule

March 21, 2024 – Washington, DC – The American Sustainable Business Network (ASBN) celebrates the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) finalization of new light-duty vehicle tailpipe pollution standards, marking another major milestone in the effort to cut air and climate pollution. These new clean car standards are critical in reducing emissions from the transportation sector, which accounts for 29% of U.S. climate pollution (Source).

With the Cleaner Cars Standards, the Biden administration and the EPA are taking strong action to protect public health, particularly for communities near highways and transportation hubs disproportionately impacted by tailpipe pollution. These new standards are projected to eliminate 7.3 billion metric tons of climate pollution—the equivalent of removing all U.S. tailpipe emissions for four years (Read more).

“The transition to zero pollution vehicles is expected to prevent 89,000 premature deaths, 2.2 million asthma attacks, and 10.7 million lost workdays,” said Michael Green, ASBN Senior Advisor on Climate and Energy (Source). “Thanks to the historic investments in the Inflation Reduction Act and Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, U.S. manufacturing is making critical advancements in clean energy technology. We applaud the EPA for issuing the strongest standards ever to cut air and climate pollution from the transportation sector.”
